National Championship Games
When Sharath was 15 years old, he was given the option of continuing his education and working as an engineer or becoming a professional table tennis player. Sharath chose the latter option. His dad started instructing him, however Sharath struggled with having a decent impact on the national level selectors. Sharath played aggressively and took a lot of risks, which would make it harder for him to stay in the game. Sharath was selected for the 16-member training camp at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, which helped him learn the game well and perform better.

Sharath Kamal brought home his first national championship in 2003, and in 2004, at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, he won his most memorable worldwide award. That very year, he qualified for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Before winning a gold medal in the singles TT match at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Sharath won five national titles in a row.
