Ashwini Ponnappa Machimanda is an Indian badminton player who was born on September 18, 1989. She competes for India on the international badminton circuit in mixed doubles and women’s doubles. She and Jwala Gutta had a successful partnership because they won numerous international medals together, including gold at the Commonwealth Games and bronze at the Uber Cup and Asian Badminton Championships. As only the second Indian pair and woman to win a medal at the World Championships, they became the first Indian pair and women to do so.

At the 2010 South Asian Games, she won both the team and mixed doubles gold medals. She and Jwala Gutta made history by winning the Women’s Doubles gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and becoming India’s first gold medalist in the event. When Gutta and Ponnappa won the medal in front of the home crowd, they became household names.
