Career

To get to the Sports Academy in Manipur, where Mirabai trained, she had to take rides with truck drivers from her home. She invited the truck drivers to express her gratitude after winning the Olympic silver medal in 2020 and also touched their feet out of respect. Her first major breakthrough came at 18 years old, when she won a gold at the Commonwealth championship in Malaysia, in 2013. In the next year, she won a silver medal in the 48kg weight class, addressing India at the Region Games at Glasgow, Scotland, in 2014.
