Nethra Kumanan is an Indian Olympian who competes in the sport of ILCA6 Women, also known as Laser Radial Sailing. She was born on August 21, 1997. She qualified for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics at the Last Chance Regatta, an Olympic qualifier, in Hyeres, France on 26 April 2024 guaranteeing the portion under the Arising Countries Program. She is the second to qualify from India after Vishnu Saravanan. Nethra trains primarily at Canary Island in Spain under Tamas Eszes, a Hungarian coach and two-time Olympian.

Nethra Kumanan was brought into the world to VC Kumanan and his significant other. Her father owns his own IT company and is an IT expert. Nethra took a stab at cruising after she joined the day camp coordinated by Tamil Nadu Cruising Affiliation (TNSA) in 2009. When she joined the camp, she was 12-year-old. She had looked into other sports like cycling, tennis, and basketball before pursuing her interest in sailing. Additionally, Nethra is a Bharatnatyam dancer. She attributes her discipline, self-assurance, and determination to Bharatnatyam.

Early life
Nethra Kumanan was born in the Indian city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. V., her father, C. Sreeja Kumanan, Kumanan’s mother, is an HR professional. Kumanan is an entrepreneur who runs an IT company. Nethra attended Patasala Montessori School until sixth grade, after which she attended The School, KFI (Krishnamurti Foundation of India) until tenth grade. From that point she took to National Institute of Schooling (NIOS) and completed her twelfth and this additionally assisted her with keeping fixed on her cruising preparing. Nethra recently earned her B.Tech. in mechanical engineering from the Vadapalani campus of SRM University.

Career
Nethra is the first Indian woman to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in sailing and the first Asian to compete in an Olympic qualifier event. At her lady Olympics, she completed 35th by and large and with a best completion of 15th in the third race of the Laser Spiral category for women out of 44 members. At the Hempel Sailing World Cup Series in Miami, Florida, in January 2020, Nethra Kumanan became the first Indian woman to win a bronze medal. She has likewise prevailed upon 20 decorations at national and international sailing championships and prepared at India, Israel, Hungary, Denmark and Spain.

As a child, Nethra Kumanan played a lot of tennis, basketball, and cycling. Nethra Kumanan decided to make sailing her profession after taking a summer class at the “Summer Sailing Camp” of the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association in 2010.
