Shooting at The Summer Olympics 2024, Indian Team, Time Schedule & More

Manu Bhaker, a former Youth Olympics champion, makes her second appearance at the Summer Games. Elavenil Valarivan, Anjum Moudgil, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar all appeared at Tokyo 2020. The other 17 Indian shooters, including Sift Kaur Samra, who won a gold medal at the Asian Games, will be competing in their first Olympics in France. The National Shooting Center in Châteauroux will host all Olympic shooting competitions.

Shooting at The Summer Olympics

Prior to the Paris Olympics in 2024, India had won four Olympic shooting medals. At Paris 2024, India’s fifth Olympic shooting medal was won by Manu Bhaker, making her the first Indian woman to accomplish this feat. Abhinav Bindra’s victory in the 10m air rifle at Beijing 2008 marked the nation’s first Olympic gold medal in an individual sport. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won India’s first Summer Games medal in shooting with a silver in 2004. At the upcoming event in Paris, the Indian shooting team will compete in five of the 15 medal events, including pistol, rifle, and shotgun competitions. There will be a qualification round before the final medal round in each event. The skeet mixed team event will make its debut at Paris 2024, where India’s Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan will compete. This is one of the significant curriculum changes from Tokyo 2020. It supplanted the snare blended group occasion from Tokyo 2020.

Olympics Shooting Competition Format

Rifle & Pistol

In qualifying, competitors begin the rifle and pistol events by shooting at a 10-ring target. The final ring scoring divides the 10-ring target into scoring zones of 10.0-10.9, with 10.9 representing the highest score. Additionally, the number of shots taken in the final varies from event to event.

Skeet & Trap

In skeet and trap occasions, contenders take shots at flying dirt articles outside. Each effective shot at one of the dirt shots is worth one point. A shoot-off ends the ties between trap and skeet. The countback rule is the next step if the competitors tie in the shoot-off. This takes into account the scores of the last 25 targets (15 for double trap).

Olympic Shooting Equipment

• Shotgun (trap): The double-barreled guns can have barrel lengths as long as 32 inches and weigh approximately nine pounds.

• Shotgun (skeet): Compared to trap and double trap shotguns, these shotguns have shorter barrels and a more open pellet pattern.
